The thriving city of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, was established on the southern seaboard area, adjoining the mouth of the mighty Murray River, which drains into the Southern Ocean. The Adelaide City Region extends about 20 km from base of the Mount Lofty Ranges and the famous Adelaide Hills, with its wineries to the coast. In the North-South direction the Adelaide Region encompasses an area about 90 km long from Sellicks Beach in the south to Gawler on the Murray River in the north.

The Adelaide beach suburbs are much sought after and admired with a string of broad sandy beaches, holiday resort and a range of excellent vacation facilities.
