Australia has a Proud World Renowned Film Making Industry

A variety of fabulous Film Festivals are held throughout Australia each year and you can time your travel to coincide with these events. Some festivals are relatively small and are based in regional centres. However these festival have unique special themes and offer the charm and personal involvement that is not available at the larger festivals. Major film festivals are held in all the capital cities (see Table 1).To find out more about the film festivals and when and where they occur see the details.

The Sydney Film Festival showcases contemporary films from Australia and around the world. Established in 1954, Sydney Film Festival is a major cultural event on the city's social calendar and one of the world's longest running film festivals.

The Melbourne International Film Festival is by far the longest running and most famous film festival in the Southern Hemisphere, and it features over 400 film sessions over an exciting three week period each July/August.

Now in its 53rd year, the festival has grown strongly over recent years.

Famous through the world as Sydney's beachside cinema, Flickerfest offers the first summer outdoors cinema screenings under the stars at Bondi Beach. This delightful and extremely popular festival screens the best short films from all over Australia and right around the world in a special and relaxed summer environment. After the kick-ff at the Sydney festival the Flickerfest begins its tours of 23 venues right around Australia.

The Canberra International Film Festival is a curated National Festival that screens more than 40 carefully selected films from all over the world, each year in the Nation's capital. This festival offers a fascinating mix of interesting feature films and full-length documentary films. If you have a high-class film that is of a high and world-class standard why not send a screener to their Artistic Director and include some background information about yourself and the film.

Fabulous Festivals

The first Byron Bay Film Festival was held in February 2006. It focused primarily on locally made films, due to the plethora of local talent in the area. The festival has since expanded to include international films as well. In 2007 the popular festival included more than 110 films from 25 different countries, including 47 Australian Premieres and 16 World Premieres. In 2008 we expanded the festival even further, hosting 30 sessions that screened 152 films from 35 countries - over 100 of these films were either World or Australian Premieres.

Other Festivals include the Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra Film Festivals. There are various film festivals with various themes: Short Films, Italian, French, Spanish, Horror, Musicals, Documentaries, etc.
