Turn your holiday travel into a real adventure!
Australia is a nation of outdoors enthusiasts, locals and visitors alike, who love the outdoors and love of camping out under the stars. There are a wide range of camping reserves and grounds, and caravan parks that offer camping sites, located everywhere, all around Australia in all types of environments. In the National parks and more remote wilderness areas you can camp almost anywhere. No matter where you go from the city outskirts to the more remote areas you will generally find somewhere camp safely to enjoy all that camping offers for the traveller.
What better way to truly experience the wonderful environments throughout Australia than on a camping holiday especially in Outback areas. If you plan to enjoy a major trip, safari or expedition then there is lots of information available and many providers who can offer a range of experiences.
Designated camping areas and reserves can also be found in National Parks, State Parks and Forests and various Nature Reserves and on pastoral properties.
Great Camping Locations & Adventures
In many of these park areas you may be restricted to camping only in the official camping grounds. But beyond the parks and private properties you can find many unofficial campsites and so there are many options available. Much of the inland Australian Outback area is cattle stations, that may be hard to identify as such, and you must contact the owners to ask for permission before you set up camp. These cattle stations are vast and not well defined and so it is best to contact the local tourism offices and get contact details about the owners of the property before setting up camp. At certain times there are bans on open fires and other restrictions you should be aware of and so it is best to get all the local information first, or organise your camping tour with an experienced operator.
As the saying goes:
Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints.
The main aim should be to have as little impact as possible. Take your rubbish away with you. Do not use detergents, shampoo or soap in creeks and streams. If you want to have a campfire, use wood very sparingly and always be aware of and use safety procedures. You will also have to comply with the fire bans and other restrictions. Many national parks will not allow any open fires, or fires may be restricted to designated areas. On may offshore islands where camping is allowed you have to quite literally carry everything you need onto the island and take it away with you at the end of your stay.
Many local tourism operators right around Australia offer Camping Tours, Expeditions, 4WD Adventures and Eco tour Safaris in many locations and environments. An extensive range of tours are available exploring the jewels and hidden treasures of the Northern Territory, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. Camping is a fantastic way to experience the grandeur and beauty of Australia. From temperate coast to tropical rainforest, desert, alpine areas or outback, you will travel in style in a 4WD vehicle or coach, pitch your tent, enjoy food cooked on an open fire (billy tea and damper) and sleep inj a swag under the stars.
Most of the camping grounds where you will stay have been selected for their fantastic location, great facilities, things to do and see and great camping areas. Most operators will supply you with superb equipment for a relaxing and comfortable camping holiday and most will supply food and meals as well. You can also join walking tours, excursions and discovery tours in the surrounding area. Some supply all the equipment; others require you to bring your own gear and food. The tours focus on exploring the unique scenery, vegetation, wildlife and Aboriginal culture in each type of area. The tours range from camping tours for budget travellers up to the deluxe 'Safari in Style' tours in the Northern Territory where everything is provided for you including setting up camp and erecting your tent. Most of these tours range from 1 to 21 days and most are associated with tour packages with a variety of options including airfares and things to do to expand your experiences.
